For DOLE 1, 116th Kalayaan Day means jobs

For the Department of Labor and Employment-Regional Office 1, freedom will take on a different meaning on the 116th commemoration of Philippine Independence on June 12, as it gears up for three simultaneous job fairs on that day.

“While we join the whole nation in celebrating Philippine Independence, we will let our jobseekers and unemployed have freedom from joblessness by facilitating their employment,” DOLE 1 Regional Director Grace Ursua said.

Ursua announced that job fairs will be held on June 12 at the Civic Center in Candon City, Ilocos Sur; Manna Mall in San Fernando City, La Union and Nepo Mall in Dagupan City to bring together local employers and licensed recruitment agencies which will offer local and overseas job opportunities for fresh graduates, unemployed and other jobseekers. She said the agency is partnering once again with Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs), local employers, licensed recruitment agencies, private establishments, different government agencies and others to shorten jobseekers’ search for employment by bringing in one venue companies which are in need of workers.

“The DOLE works to make it easy and fast for jobseekers to find jobs that fit their qualifications, interests and career inclinations; while helping employers find the right applicants for their manpower needs,” the regional director said.

Ursua said the job fairs at the Manna Mall and Candon Civic Center will also feature one-stop-shop employment services by the Social Security System, Philhealth, Pag-IBIG, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Professional Regulation Commission, National Conciliation and Mediation Board, Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board and National Labor Relations Commission.

“Jobseekers may opt to experience our Kalayaan 2014 celebration differently. They should take advantage of the opportunities and services which will be offered, be in their best and bring complete documents such as resumes/bio data, transcript of records, diplomas, employment and training certificates, pictures and other proofs of credentials,” Ursua added.

The event is anchored on the theme: “Pagsunod sa Yapak ng mga Dakilang Pilipino, Tungo sa Malawakan at Permanenteng Pagbabago”. – Arly Sta. Ana-Valdez
