CANDON CITY, Ilocos Sur - In their effort to speed up initiative and to serve as a forward motion in carrying out the nation’s policy in providing full employment and equal employment opportunities for the people, the Office of Congressman Eric D. Singson of the 2nd District of Ilocos Sur, the City Government of Candon headed by Mayor Ericson G. Singson, MD, and the Department of Labor and Employment RO1 and Ilocos Sur Field Office joined forces in conducting Kalayaan Job Fair 2014 held on June 12 at the Candon Civic Center, Candon City, Ilocos Sur.

Upholding the theme, “Pagsunod sa Yapak ng mga Dakilang Pilipino, Tungo sa Malawakan at Permanenteng Pagbabago,” this year’s Kalayaan job fair solicited close to 2,800 vacancies, both for the local and overseas employment.

A total of 1,069 applicants were registered and 696 of them were qualified for further interview. Freeing themselves from joblessness who have been painstakingly waiting to land a work, 110 were hired on the spot among the registered pool of applicants; that is, they will be employed and enter the world of work in the private establishments such as Colorsteel Systems Corporation, St. Peter Life Plan, Inc., Micromate Marketing Corporation, Mitsukoshi Motors Phils., Inc., Mart One Vigan, Fundline Finance Corporation, TSPI, TCG Enterprises, Sanford Marketing Corp. (Savemore), and Expert Global Solutions.

The mega job fair was participated by 15 local employers and 10 licensed recruitment agencies. “For an applicant to be hired, one should not only meet the minimum requirement but should go beyond it,” DOLE 1 Regional Director Grace Y. Ursua said.

One stop shop was also made accessible to bring a closer avenue for the public to avail on the benefits of the services that they offer. Among those who joined the catalytic force were SSS, Philhealth, Pag-Ibig, Civil Service Commission, OWWA, POEA, TESDA, PRC, NSO, and DSWD.
