CENRO Conducts Site Inspection for Proposed Municipal Sanitary Landfill in Sugpon
Sugpon, Ilocos Sur — October 23, 2025
Representatives from the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) – Bitalag, Tagudin Field Office recently visited the municipality to conduct a site inspection for the proposed Municipal Sanitary Landfill (MSLF) located at Lot 2339-Part and the Amburayan sandbed area in Sugpon.
Joining the inspection were Municipal Mayor Daniel C. Laño, Jr. together with personnel from the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO), Municipal Social Services Office (MASSO), and Municipal Engineering Office (MEO). The team worked closely with CENRO representatives to check the area’s condition and assess whether it meets the environmental standards set for a sanitary landfill site.
The inspection focused on evaluating important factors such as soil quality, drainage, accessibility, and proximity to residential and agricultural zones. These assessments will help determine the best approach to ensure that the landfill project will be both safe and environmentally sustainable.
This activity forms part of the municipality’s ongoing efforts to improve solid waste management and promote sustainable development. By carefully studying and planning the project with CENRO and other concerned agencies, the local government aims to establish a long-term solution for proper waste disposal while protecting Sugpon’s natural surroundings, especially the Amburayan River and nearby communities.
The initiative reflects the LGU’s continuous commitment to building a cleaner, greener, and more environmentally responsible Sugpon for future generations.
