DSWD and LGU Sugpon Distribute Social Pension and Birthday Incentives to Senior Citizens Across Six Barangays
Sugpon, Ilocos Sur — October 21-23, 2025
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), in coordination with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) Office and the Municipal Treasury Office (MTO), successfully conducted the distribution of social pension and birthday incentives to senior citizens across several barangays in the municipality of Sugpon, namely Balbalayang, Banga, Caoayan, Licungan, Pangotan, and Danac.
This activity was part of the government’s continuing effort to extend financial assistance to elderly residents as a form of support for their daily needs and to recognize their valuable contributions to their families and the community. The distribution in each barangay was carried out smoothly and efficiently, with the assistance of local officials and MSWD staff who ensured that all qualified beneficiaries received their rightful benefits.
A special highlight of the three-day activity took place in Barangay Danac, where representatives PSMS Mila T. Pang-oden and Pat Arfena T. Sarmiento conducted an information dissemination session on Republic Act No. 9994, otherwise known as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010. During their talk, they discussed the rights, privileges, and benefits that senior citizens are entitled to, such as discounts on basic goods, medical services, and social protection programs. They also reminded the attendees to maintain updated records with the MSWD Office to ensure continuous access to government support.
The discussion provided an opportunity for the elderly to better understand how national policies safeguard their welfare and how they can actively exercise their rights as senior citizens. Many participants expressed their appreciation for the session, noting that it deepened their awareness of available government services and how to avail them properly.
The series of distributions and the accompanying information drive demonstrate the local government’s dedication to enhancing the quality of life of its elderly residents. Through close coordination with the DSWD and other partner agencies, the LGU of Sugpon continues to deliver programs that uphold social inclusion, promote well-being, and show gratitude to the senior citizens who have long contributed to the growth of the community.
This initiative reinforces the municipality’s ongoing commitment to building a caring and compassionate community, ensuring that every senior citizen feels valued, supported, and remembered.
