Sugpon, Ilocos SurJuly 31, 2026

The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Sugpon, through the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), successfully celebrated the 48th National Disability Rights Week at the New Plaza, Balbalayang (Poblacion), reaffirming its commitment to promoting the rights, welfare, and meaningful participation of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the municipality.

Anchored on this year’s theme, “Rights First, Legislation Forward: Strategic Action for Equal Participation and Inclusive Development,” the celebration gathered Persons with Disabilities, their families, and members of the community in a collective effort to advance inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunities for all.

The activity featured a Rights Awareness Forum, where participants were educated on the rights of PWDs, available social welfare programs, and existing laws that safeguard their welfare and dignity. This was followed by an Empowerment and Capacity Building Session, designed to strengthen participants’ confidence, leadership skills, and self-advocacy.

A significant highlight of the event was the organization of the local PWD Association, aimed at strengthening representation, fostering collaboration, and promoting collective action among Persons with Disabilities in Sugpon. The initiative is expected to provide a stronger platform for addressing the concerns and advancing the interests of the PWD sector.

Through activities that promote awareness, empowerment, and community participation, the LGU of Sugpon continues to uphold its vision of building an inclusive municipality where every individual is respected, valued, and given equal opportunities to contribute to community development.

The celebration serves as a reminder that creating an accessible and inclusive society is a shared responsibility, inspiring everyone to work together toward a more equitable and compassionate Sugpon.
